Saving Salish
In the hopes of preserving Native American languages before they become lost, LaRae Wiley teaches classes using the Colville-Okanagan-Salish dialect in eastern Washington state. Spokesman Review photographer Rajah Bose visits Wiley’s class and interviews her and one of her students about the importance of keeping these languages alive. Wiley’s hope is that her classes will inspire others to teach their own families words and phrases in order to revitalize the endangered language and culture.
