In the Realm of Fairies
They have been coming now for nine years from as far away as Europe to this remote mountain meadow in north central Washington. They all share a belief in the magical creatures known as fairies, and so they gather for the Fairy and Human Relations Congress, an annual outdoor festival in the Methow Valley.
About 250 people attended this year’s ninth annual event with the purpose of encouraging communication and cooperation with the fairy realm. Although only about ten percent of people say they have ever seen a fairy, according to event organizer Michael Pilarski, that doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
Journalists from the Spokesman-Review attended the 2009 festival and interviewed a wide range of fairy followers for this short, colorful video.
