Aboard U.S. Flying Hospital

Air crews fly weekly missions to bring combat-wounded soldiers from Afghanistan or Iraq to Germany, and then to hospitals in the U.S.

Air crews from Travis Air Force Base fly missions on the average of once a week, to bring the casualties and combat wounded back from Afghanistan or Iraq to Germany, and then to hospitals back home in the U.S. SFGate.com (The San Francisco Chronicle’s online counterpart) produced this video. By flying missions about once a week since the beginning of the wars, the medical team has moved about 50,000 wounded to Germany where they can be further treated for their injuries. The crew says more than 90 percent of those who make it to their aircraft in the field will live.
