A Hendrix Experience in Hollywood
Just like Jimi Hendrix did, Anthony Aquarius plays left-handed but uses a right-handed guitar held upside down. He also plays with his teeth and with his guitar behind his back.
Aquarius says his success comes from people thinking he just might be the rock and roll legend who died from an accidental drug overdose in 1970.
Aquarius makes his stage on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, about a block from where Hendrix's own star is encased in the sidewalk's terrazzo.
This audio slideshow by the LA Times captures this Hendrix stand-in performing on the street to adoring fans. Aquarius says sometimes he plays the classic “Hey Joe,” over 30 times a day, and guesses that’s more than Jimi himself ever played it.
